Five things to do in Leavenworth in Late Spring...

There are so many things to do in Leavenworth, WA you may just decide to extend your stay an extra night or two. Almost all of these activities are available weeknights as well as weekends. In fact, at The Leavenworth Vineyard Townhouse, we’re big fans of weeknights in town. Enjoy wide sidewalks, restaurants-with-seating, and shopkeepers who are happy to see you!

Here’s a quick rundown on the best activities you can enjoy while visiting this little slice of Bavaria nestled in the Cascade Mountains of Washington State. We’ve listed these in alphabetical order, of course:

1. Bird watching:

Spring and autumn, migrating birds rest a while in Leavenworth. The Audubon Society ranks this as one of the best places to birdwatch in the state. Whether you attend the annual Spring Bird Fest, held the third week in May, or prefer to seek them out on your own, there are plenty of places to view birds heading to or from their annual nesting grounds.

2. Catch a film:

What? There are no movies in Leavenworth. Well, we can help dispel that error. In fact, there is a LOT of inspiring, thought-provoking film in town. Each April the Leavenworth Film Festival is hosted to showcase the best recent short films with a focus on outdoor pursuits and the natural world. You can also catch film or live streaming video at the Icicle Center for the Performing Arts, with their ongoing film series. In October, they host the Family Film Festival and the Vox Docs is held in March, showcasing great documentaries.

3. Carriage or wagon rides:

Whether in town or in the country, savor each picturesque setting as early settlers did, from behind carriages and wagons. Some of them offer meals and special surprises for their guests; leave it up to your imagination and let yourselves be carried away.

4. Coffee lovers welcome:

Washington is known as a coffee-lovers’ paradise, and Leavenworth is no exception. On either end of Front Street you can “latte up” – either at Argonaut Espresso or J5 Coffee. Of course, Starbucks also serves up great brew. You are bound to get your coffee fix, here.

5. Climbing:

Whether a novice or expert climber, these experiences are way beyond the norm. You get to scale real mountains, not just man-made walls. Leavenworth is considered one of the top mountain-climbing cities in the nation. Try it for yourself and find out why.
